Winston George Schell was born on August 15, 1943, in Grey, Ontario.

He was a Canadian teacher, writer, musician, publisher, and editor. He served as English Teacher and Department Head with the Thames Valley District School Board for more than thirty years. He released two folk music albums, "Any Direction" (1969) and "City Wilderness" (1976). Schell contributed to London's cultural community as the founder, publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Ergo Productions (est. 1977) and as a supporter of local cultural events. He also wrote numerous articles, essays, poetry, and works of short fiction. In 2004, Thames Valley Education Foundation created Winston Schell Creativity Award in his memory.

He was married to Linda Mary Gregson. He died on September 2, 2004, in London, Ontario.
