History

Dr. Samuel Leonard Abbot was born on May 3, 1818, in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

In 1838, he graduated from Harvard Medical School. For 60 years he was connected with the Massachusetts General Hospital and he also had a large private practice. For many years he was an associate editor of the Boston Medical and Surgical Journal. He was a zealous student of ornithology, officially connected with the Boston Society of Natural History. He was a member of the Thursday Evening Club and one of the administrators of the First Church of Boston.

He married Eliza Jane Hoppin. He died on July 1, 1904, in Boston, Massachusetts.
