The Sir William Osler Collection, distinct from the Bibliotheca, is an extensive archival holding of Osler's correspondence (including eighteen hundred original letters), daybooks, accounts, engagement books, legal documents, book invoices, membership certificates, notebooks, lectures, addresses, newspaper clippings, photographs, books with manuscript additions, and miscellaneous loose items formerly inserted into individual books in his library. The collection also contains various family papers, including correspondence of Lady Grace Revere Osler and Edward Revere Osler.

Fonds consists of 6 architectural drawings (1949-1965) representing two projects: alterations to a house in Montreal for A. Bronfman on Belvedere Road and a plan for the Galerie d'art, Cite du Havre in Montreal, for the Canadian Corporation for the 1967 World Exhibition. Bland served as a consulting architect on this project which was designed by the firm of Gauthier and Guité and Gilles Côté. Fonds also contains an Ontario Association of Architects membership certificate for Bland.

This fonds contains records created by Robertson Masson & Co. as part of their work as merchants between 1835 and 1844. Robertson Masson & Co. were based in Montreal and served clients in Ontario, Quebec, and in the northeastern United States.

This fonds consists of professional correspondence and some business documents related to Henry Watts and Company, a company that sold land in Alberta to interested people in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area. The correspondence includes both external correspondence with clients and internal comunication, between employees of Henry Watts and Company as well as employees of Leighton and Gilbert (agents of the Canadian Pacific Irrigation Colonization Company), to whom they were contracted. The internal correspondence includes lists of potential buyers, discussions of plans to recruit more buyers, organizational details for excursions to Alberta to show buyers available land, sales updates, accounting information, changes in legislation that affect the sale of land, and letters documenting hiring. The external correspondence mostly consists of letters from customers seeking information about purchasing land in Canada (especially Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba) or who were interested in visiting available land for sale, with responses containing information about available land, upcoming excursions and about farming in Alberta at this time, including recommendations of profitable crops and farming methods.

The fonds is described at the file level, and is not divided into series. The fonds consists of handwritten and typed letters, typed copies of letters, and telegrams. It also includes some legal and financial documents.

Collection consists of 36 autograph letters written to James Cameron and his son Archie. The correspondence includes letters by friends, associates, and members of the Cameron family in Toronto, Lake Beauport, Scotland, England, Hull, and Montreal. Subjects include family news, freemasonry, business (regarding deed of sales), factory work in Toronto, curling, and an April Fools' Day letter. With three extant envelopes.

Typed copies of the official and private correspondence, 1814-1821, held in the McCord Museum in the William MacKay Papers. They consist mainly consist of military records such as commissions, 1813-1814, correspondence between members of the British Indian Department, including Lt. Col. Robert McDouall and his description of the siege of Prairie du Chien, with reference to the Omaeqnomenew (Menominee), Hocak (Winnebago), and Meskwaki (Fox) warriors who fought alongside British forces, as well as to the Potawatomi leader Main Poc (referred to as Marpock), 1814-1815 and copies of correspondence of Capt. Thomas Anderson with Lt Col. Robert McDouall on military actions, supplies and Indian relations, 1814-1815. There is also a newspaper clipping about Alexander MacKay and the partnership agreement admitting William MacKay and David Mackenzie into the North West Company in 1796.

Madeleine Parent Fonds

The fonds chiefly documents Madeleine Parent’s activities as a key union organizer and activist in Québec and Ontario, for the United Textile Workers’ Union of America (UTWA), 1943-1952 and Canadian Textile Council (CTC), as well as the Canadian Textile and Chemical Union (CTCU), 1952-1983, through union documents, including minutes, resolutions, collective agreements, financial documents, and correspondence, as well as newspaper clippings, union/labour newsletters, union convention badges and photographs. The records of union activities include handwritten transcripts of the testimony at her seditious conspiracy trial 1947-1948, pamphlets and broadsheets concerning strikes at Dominion Textile in 1952, and Harding Carpets in 1956 as well as a photo album of her trip to China, 1960. The records also to a much lesser extent reflect her activities in the Council of Canadian Unions as well as the Confederation of Canadian Unions (CCU) through records of executive board and congress activities, chiefly 1973-1983 and her notes concerning labour school training sessions, 1977-1981.

The fonds also documents Madeleine Parent’s social and political activism, especially in the years following her retirement from the union in 1983, through correspondence, speeches and lectures, newspaper clippings, minutes, agenda books, 1948-2009, telephone journals, 1990-2005, photographs, as well as audiotapes of interviews and speeches. There are records concerning her involvement in public campaigns concerning such issues as free trade, 1987, de-indexing of family allowances, 1985-1986, freedom of choice/abortion rights, 1986-1987, Charlottetown Accord, 1992 and the human rights case of Mary Pitawanakwat, 1994-1995. Some of these campaigns reflect her involvement in the National Action Committee on the Status of Women.

Also included are documents pertaining to her personal life including family documents, correspondence, biographical information, photographs, and diplomas.

This fonds also contains personal and labour-related writings, including articles, letters to the editor, book reviews, reports on union activities, notes on Canadian history, and correspondence of Kent Rowley, 1942-1975.
