The fonds consists of the records of the Zoological Society of Montreal for the entirety of its existence, from 1964-2016. These records were generated in the pursuit of the Zoological Society’s goal to enhance public awareness of wildlife conservation issues through speakers, film screenings, field trips, special events, and large projects. The records also reflect the Society's charity to zoological, ecological and conservation causes. The administration of the Society, its interactions with its members, and its projects and events are documented through minutes, correspondence, communications, published articles, financial documents, reports, and proposals. The Society’s interests and activities are also reflected through books, objects from their offices, audio and video materials, and 5243 photographs, most of which are stored in photo albums. The fonds also contains the records of the Zoological Society of Canada, which were created to administer the Canadian Society similarly to the Montreal Society, with the goal of expanding the organization’s reach nationally.

The fonds is comprised of the following series: 1) Activities (1965-2013); 2) Administration (1964-2016); 3) Artifacts (1980-2004); 4) Books (1967-1991); and 5) Newsletters (1967-2016).

Fonds consists chiefly of ephemera and correspondence relating to the work of wood engravers of Thomas and John Bewick of Newcastle, England, in the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The ephemera found in series 1 includes various examples of fine printing, including proofs and printed keepsakes featuring Bewick engravings from printers such as Havilah Press and Anchor and Acorn Press. Series 2 contains correspondence, chiefly between Geraldine Cole and booksellers, as well as general correspondence with friends and acquaintances. Series 3 consists primarily of bookseller descriptions and clippings and excerpts from catalogues describing Bewick works (generally with the catalogue cover appended to a loose page on which a Bewick item appears). Some are with accompanying correspondence. Also included in this series are documents listing all of the items found in the Cole-Bewick Collection at McGill Library. Series 4 consists of other ephemera related to Bewick and his life, including short biographical pieces, postcards and products featuring Bewick engravings and watercolours, and articles and clippings. The last file in this series contains 4 original letters from Thomas Bewick to various correspondents, dating between 1819 to 1825. Series 5 contains a number of subject files relate to specific projects or organizations, including the Bewick Society.

The fonds is divided into series, following the provenance and arrangement of the depositor as much as possible. Among the principal series are: President's binders or files, Secretary's binders or files, CHLA/ABSC special reports, and CHLA/ABSC publications. Within the series are found sub-series, i.e. President's binder, correspondence. The organization of the binders revolves around the Board Meetings, which occur three times a year, in June, October and February. At this time, reports are presented and decisions acted upon. Addenda to the Board Minutes frequently exceed 10 items. The fiscal year is from June 1 to May 31.

The fonds chiefly reflects the public role of Margaret Somerville through the dissemination of her ideas on ethical issues through conferences, lectures, various publications, teaching activities, consults and research with some records concerning her family and personal life. The fonds consists of the following series; conference papers and lectures, (1981-2013), committee memberships, (1977-2005); media relations, (1980-2013); personal/family matters, (1934-2016); writing/publishing activities, (1979-2015); communications, (1983-2010); subject files/consults,(1987-2015); teaching materials, (1990-2015); and general filing, (1995-2016).

The fonds consists of literary works composed by Farkas, including scripts, manuscripts, poems, and plays. The records reflect Farkas’ involvement within the arts community, as well as many works relating to Canadian culture, specifically in Quebec. Farkas’ records span from 1952 until 2016. Locations that are reflected in Farkas’ works are Canada and Hungary.

No discernable order has been detected except for boxes 7 and 8 where poems are sorted alphabetically. The records have been filed into series which are detailed below. There are photographs, personal correspondence, translations of other poems and audiovisual materials (cassettes, CDs and DVDs). There are large amounts of correspondence with other artists and performers in both Canada and Europe, another reflection of his involvement within the community. The fonds contains the professional papers of Canadian-American architect Witold Rybczynski. They comprise textual records including book manuscripts and proofs, research materials, reviews, correspondence, and teaching material, as well as slides and digital files representing his career as an author and educator.

The fonds document H. Rocke Robertson’s personal and family life, including his early education, his athletic abilities, his experiences during WWII in Britain, Sicily, and Italy, as well as some aspects of his professional life, including articles, speeches, and correspondence on his activities as a surgeon, surgeon in chief, professor of surgery, and as McGill’s principal, inclusive 1912-1998. In particular, his tenure as McGill’s principal is characterized by records in diverse formats such as personal diaries, correspondence files, newspaper and magazine clippings, photographs, and related ephemera reflecting his administrative duties, including the changes he implemented at McGill, as well as his efforts to cope with radical student behaviour and the Quebec government’s unwillingness to provide McGill with much needed financial assistance. Robertson’s retirement activities are also reflected in the records. Also included are numerous documents that reveal his interest in rare English dictionaries, rare books, and the history of medicine, in particular the history of surgical techniques. The fonds consist of 18 boxes with some files arranged into subject categories while others have a chronological arrangement scheme.

The fonds contain textual material such as correspondence, unpublished and published material, notes, research and teaching material, as well as photographs of Sharma and acquaintances. It also contains visual and audio recordings of Sharma from events in addition to objects having belonged to Sharma.

The fonds documents Yvan Lamonde’s research activities as a student and professor chiefly through research notes, correspondence and journals, his participation in national and international colloquia and cultural organizations through minutes and correspondence, as well as his publishing activities through contracts, correspondence and book reviews. There is also some personal correspondence and photographs.

The fonds consist of diaries, photographs, scrapbooks, photographs albums and ephemera created by or about Canadian nursing sister Clare Gass (1887-1968). A diary and a photograph album chronicle Clare Gass's experiences as a nurse with the Canadian Army Medical Corps stationed in France and England during the First World War. The diary contains entries dated between 4 March 1915 to 31 December 1916 and also features an early appearance of the poem "In Flanders Field," written by John McCrae during the war upon the burial of a close friend. It is copied out in the diary entry for 30 October, nearly six weeks before its first publication in the magazine Punch on 8 December 1915. The diary originally had ephemeral material originally laid in, including newspaper clippings, manuscript notes and letters, one photograph, pencil drawings, and ten dried plant specimens. These have been removed from the diary for preservation purposes. Her photograph album from the First World War begins in April 2015 with photos of the nursing sisters assembled for inspection before deployment and the sea crossing to Europe. The photographs include depictions of soldiers and nursing sisters, oftentimes in their huts, and hospital interiors from multiple hospitals at which she worked and visited. It contains photographs from various postings in Etaples, Camiers, Cliveden (England) Boulogne, and Rhyl (Wales), as well as landscapes, historical sites, and other scenes from the surrounding areas that she toured, including a trip to Scotland. Leaves 13 and 14 of the photograph album also contain the text of “In Flanders Field.”

Loose photographs also document Gass’s wartime experiences in France, as well the hospital at St. Anne de Bellevue, Quebec, and Gass's transit duties in the Rockies in 1919. A series of photographs are from the visit of the Prince of Wales to Quebec October and November of 1919. Other loose photographs also depict wounded veterans, as well as personal photographs, including a portrait of Clare Gass at age 13.

Her childhood is also documented in the fonds by a photograph album containing photos from her years attending Edgehill School. The photos date chiefly between 1904 and 1905 and depict school exteriors, interiors, friends and classmates, as well as school activities such as Drill Class.

An additional folder contains material compiled by Gertrude Henderson, including letters to Clare Gass, some of her writings, and other ephemera, such as clippings noting Gass’s retirement, sketches, some of Gass’s poetry and stories, a memorial from King George to those who served in the war, and manuscript notes on Gass’s school and word record, including years and places that she was stationed. The folder also contains assorted later photographs of Gass.
