Ad Hoc Committee

Subseries consists of two files of ad hoc committees set up to study particular matters. The first file [P125/B4.1] contains records of the Committee on Medical History among Young Physicians and the second one [P125/B4.2] gathers information generated by the Ad Hoc Committee on the Oslerian Book.

Reports

Subseries consists of reports submitted to the attention of the Board of Governors. Contains one file with two reports: one on the sale of the Aequanimitas tie and one on membership criteria.

Logistics and correspondence

Sub-subseries consists of records regarding the logistic of the project and forms for an earlier edition of the directory. Contains one file of correspondence, quotations from printers, notes and working sheets, and biographical forms.

Members Biographical Forms

Sub-subseries consists of five files containing the members’ biographical forms that were used for the publication of the directory of the American Osler Society. Includes biographical forms filed in alphabetical order with related documents such as curriculum vitae and bibliographies.

Tax Status

Subseries contains documents regarding IRS tax returns, IRS correspondence, and tax status of the association as a charitable organization.

John P. McGovern Lecture

Series consists of three subseries containing records generated by the John P. McGovern Lecture, which was established in 1986 through the endowment of the John P. McGovern Foundation. The lectureship makes possible an annual presentation of a paper dedicated to the general areas of Sir William Osler’s interests in the interface between the humanities and the sciences. The lectureship is awarded to a leader who is selected by a committee of the American Osler Society. The records include the records of the John P. McGovern Lecture Committee (P125/H1); documents regarding the annual lecture (P125/H2); the published pamphlets of the lectures and textual materials generated during the preparation of the edited volume Our lords, the sick: McGovern Lectures in the history of medicine and medical humanism (2004) (P125/H3). Series includes correspondence of the secretary-treasurer with John P. McGovern, guidelines of the committee, programs, press release, and newspaper clippings.

William B. Bean Student Research Award

Series consists of two subseries, P125/G1 William B. Bean Student Research Award committee documents and P125/G2 Candidates Files containing records created by the committee administering this program. This research studentship has been developed to support research in the broad areas of medical history and medical humanism. The successful applicant may be eligible to present a paper based on his findings at the annual meeting of the American Osler Society. Series includes correspondence, report, copy of last will and testament, application forms, drafts of announces, request of information, research proposals, curriculum vitae and bibliographies, letter of appraisal and notification of award.

Lecturers' Files

Subseries consists of the file of the speaker selected for the John P. McGovern Lecture.The presentation of the speaker is published afterwards in the John P. McGovern Lecture Series of the American Osler Society. Typical file includes correspondence, notification of selection, curriculum vitae, guidelines, presentation, manuscript, galley proofs, and drafts.

John P. McGovern Lecture Committee

Subseries consists of documents created by members of the committee regarding the selection of the speaker for the John P. McGovern Lecture at the annual meeting of the American Osler Society. Includes one file of correspondence of the secretary-treasurer with John P. McGovern, guidelines of the committee, programs, press release and newspaper clipping.
