Visual items and Reference Material, 1927-1959

Series D consists of photographs, postcards, slides, x-rays, and other visual material and artifacts such as copper printing plates. The visual material is located within other series, particularly the Correspondence Series A, but described individually here.

Patient Files, 1945-1955

Series E consists of 33 folders containing patient files arranged chronologically with alphabetical sub-arrangement. It includes admission, discharge summaries, and Dr. Cone’s holograph notes.

Research Notebooks, 1927-1957

Series A contains Dr. Elliott’s research notebooks from his association with Selwyn College, Cambridge, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Montreal Neurological Institute. Some of this research was collaborative. Most of the series comprises research relating to the study of brain trauma as a result of head injury or neurosurgery.
This series is divided into three (3) sub-series:
A/1) Research (experiment) notebooks, 1927-1933
A/2) Research (experiment) notebooks, 1933-1949
A/3) Research (experiment) notebooks, 1944-1957

GABA Studies

Series B contains EKG and EEG studies for Dr. Herbert Jasper pertaining to gamma-amino-butyric acid. This series is comprised of 3 files (nos. 48 to 50), which are arranged chronologically.

Correspondence – American, Canadian, British and South African associations of Scientific Workers

Series C contains Dr. Elliott’s correspondence relating to his involvement with American, Canadian, British and South African associations of scientific workers. This series includes newspaper clippings, research notes, drafts and typescripts of speeches and publications for the various associations. This series is comprised of 25 files (nos. 51 to 75).

Correspondence Files, 1936-1986

Series D contains correspondence concerning topics of Dr. Elliott’s professional interest.
This series is divided into two (2) sub-series:
D/1) Correspondence, 1944-1986
D/2) General correspondence, 1936-1985

Teaching files, 1903-1982

Series E contains course seminar notes, copies of exams, lectures notes and correspondence. Dr. Elliott’s recommendations for students and colleagues and his academic certificates and awards are included in this series. Correspondence relating to Dr. Elliott’s visits to certain countries to teach is also included. This sub-series is comprised of 22 files (nos. 146 to 180).

Slides used for neurochemistry lectures

Series F contains slides concerning the examination of brain swelling, acetylcholine experiments, gamma amino butyric acid experiments, as well as other research projects. All slides were used for lectures presented for the Montreal Neurological Institute and the Department of Biochemistry, McGill University, and the University of Pennsylvania. This sub-series is comprised of 22 files (no. 181 to 200).

Other visual items

Series G contains Dr. Elliott’s personal travel slides, some portrait photograph slides of Dr. Elliott and others at McGill University. This sub-series also includes photographs of association gatherings, staff photographs of the Department of Neurochemistry and the Montreal Neurological Institute. Various portrait photographs and ones of medical instruments are also included.

Subject Files, 1934-1981

Series A contains correspondence, newspaper clippings, research and teaching materiel, photographs and drafts of work from Dr. McNaughton’s association with McGill University, the Montreal Neurological Institute, the Royal Victoria Hospital, the Neuro Musical International, and various professional associations. Of special importance are the biographical files pertaining to Dr. Wilder Penfield. A large portion of this series is devoted to the study of headaches including drafts of works on this topic.
