R.C. Parsons and Peggy Parsons correspondence

Correspondence from Robert C. Parsons to his wife, Peggy Parsons, living in Vancouver. Also includes 6 letters from Peggy to Robert. Contents of the letters chiefly concern news from home, daily life as a soldier, thanks for care packages, and thoughts of one another. The letters are very affectionate and often erotic.

Diaries

This series contains personal diaries kept by Christina Barbara Hall, Benjamin Hall, and Charlotte Hall between 18 October 1795 and 8 May 1886. Christina Barbara Hall's diaries were written while she lived in Andover, Massachusetts, and in Montreal, Quebec. Benjamin Hall's diaries were written from Montreal and during a trip to London, England. Charlotte Hall's diary was written while she lived in Montreal. The diaries chiefly concern weather, news of family and community members, as well as occasional remarks about politics.

Each diary (or set of loose pages) was allocated a separate file because of the size and/or fragility of the volumes, and to maintain consistency within the series. Files in the series are arranged in chronological order. Diaries are mostly bound volumes, though Benjamin Hall's diaries are loose pages.

Personal records

Series 1 contains biographical information; photos of Harold Spence-Sales and family-friends at events as well as genealogy projects. Series 1 also holds a plethora of materials about Spence-Sales death as well as legal documentation. Series 1 also contains materials that relate to Harold Spence-Sales personal interests, primarily his art interests. Series 1 is full of handmade drawings ‘paintings, photographs of sculptures, art pieces and exhibits-exhibitions. The series highlights Spence-sales interest in ancient mythology-culture as well as modern art, nature and natural formations. A lot of the photographs in the series focuses on art projects that Harold Spence-Sales created and displayed at his home. Series 1 also contains correspondence between Harold Spence-Sales, his friends, family and colleagues. Series 1 also holds some personal artifacts of Spence-Sales: Professional stamps, personal flag, certificates etc. Series 1 contains, a variety of textual records, photographs, artifacts, DVD’s, VHS-cassette tapes, images and printouts of art.

Accounting

The accounting series consists of three account books detailing different financial dealings and assets of the Natural History Society of Montreal. The accounting details are varied, one being the treasurer’s ledger of income and expenses kept by Treasurers James Ferrier Jr. and E. E. Shelton (file 13.7); another showing closing account balances for 1905, 1914, 1915, and 1916 and sales clippings for properties: 52 University Street Property, 152 & 154 Drummond Street Property, and the 365 Mountain Street Property Diagram of the property of the Natural History Society (file 15.1); lastly an address book shows an alphabetical list of assets and their value, as well as a note in the front tracking “Field Day” surpluses and deficits from 1882-1890 (file 16.3).

Bound volumes

Series consists of 15 bound volumes containing culinary and medicinal recipes, all created or collected in the Doncaster region of South Yorkshire. Two of the volumes are printed works by female authors devoted to cooking, confectionery, and household management (publication dates 1795 and 1814). The remaining 13 are manuscript notebooks. Two of the manuscripts feature attributions to Sarah Anne Warde, while one is attributed to Eliza Smithson. The manuscript attributed to Eliza Smithson contains an enigmatical bill of fare, or table setting riddles, penned by Smithson wherein in place of the name of a dish, Smithson provides an enigma.

Research

Most of the papers in the Gloor fonds may be classified as documents of Gloor's various research interests and activities. The research category includes original studies, both those authored by Gloor alone and those co-authored with colleagues, and evaluations of other studies, and letters to research journals in the fields of basic and clinical neurology.

Lectures - dated

The series contains the written versions of lectures delivered by Ramsay Traquair throughout his career, most of them manuscript, illustrated, and providing a listing of slides.

Valentine's cards

Series consists of greeting cards, prints, and ephemera celebrating St. Valentine's Day. Items date from between approximately 1790 to the late twentieth century.

Publications

The publications in this series comprise the final drafts of Scriver papers accepted for publication in print journals, including research, editorials and reviews of other scholarly efforts, co-authored papers, and revisions to the textbook The Metabolic & Molecular Bases of Inherited Disease. Also included here are 3.5 boxes of Scriver’s own monographs, including editions (I-VI, with gaps) of the aforementioned textbook and a number of related publications. The periodicals in this series were kept in loose chronological order by Scriver himself and range from 1960-2009 (with gaps). These publications draw chiefly from Canadian and international journals, and focus on Scriver’s research in the field of genetics, metabolic deficiencies, and pediatric disease in a Canadian context. All publications are originals except where noted.
