Subseries contains documents relating to the budget of the annual meeting and the financial operations linked with this activity such as reimbursement of travel expenses. Includes correspondence, newspaper clipping, photocopies of checks, list statement, and a letter of agreement.

Abstracts and Presentations

Subseries contains abstracts submitted for annual meeting and presentations made at these occasions. The fourteen files are arranged in chronological order and includes correspondence, presentations and abstracts.

Presidential Address

Subseries consists of some of the presidential address texts given at the annual meeting of the American Osler Society. Includes a draft, a newspaper clipping, working notes, bibliographies and an text of introduction of the presidential address.

Final Report

Subseries consists of reports of the events that occurred on the annual meeting. It gives a summary of the election of the officers of the American Osler Society, a report of attendance and payments and a roster of attendance at the annual meeting, as well as a listing of the lectures presented at the annual meeting itself. The form and content of the report varies over the year.

Photographs

Subseries consists of photographs taken at annual meetings of the American Osler Society. It also includes some group photos of the members.

William B. Bean Student Research Award

Series consists of two subseries, P125/G1 William B. Bean Student Research Award committee documents and P125/G2 Candidates Files containing records created by the committee administering this program. This research studentship has been developed to support research in the broad areas of medical history and medical humanism. The successful applicant may be eligible to present a paper based on his findings at the annual meeting of the American Osler Society. Series includes correspondence, report, copy of last will and testament, application forms, drafts of announces, request of information, research proposals, curriculum vitae and bibliographies, letter of appraisal and notification of award.

Subseries consists of successful candidates files related to the William B. Bean Student Research Award. A typical candidate file contains applications forms, research proposals, curriculum vitae and bibliographies, letter of appraisal, correspondence and notification of award.

John P. McGovern Lecture

Series consists of three subseries containing records generated by the John P. McGovern Lecture, which was established in 1986 through the endowment of the John P. McGovern Foundation. The lectureship makes possible an annual presentation of a paper dedicated to the general areas of Sir William Osler’s interests in the interface between the humanities and the sciences. The lectureship is awarded to a leader who is selected by a committee of the American Osler Society. The records include the records of the John P. McGovern Lecture Committee (P125/H1); documents regarding the annual lecture (P125/H2); the published pamphlets of the lectures and textual materials generated during the preparation of the edited volume Our lords, the sick: McGovern Lectures in the history of medicine and medical humanism (2004) (P125/H3). Series includes correspondence of the secretary-treasurer with John P. McGovern, guidelines of the committee, programs, press release, and newspaper clippings.
