Extract from Archibald Malloch's journal. They went to the Radcliffe to look about history of anaesthetics. Osler told them of Buller who wanted him to invest money in a wildcat scheme. Osler told them of James Hamilton who lost all his money in a scheme. Anecdote of an autopsy on case of Hodgkins' disease with Shearman in Montreal. Mentions that Osler works a little at the new edition of the textbook.

The latter is interested in Locke. Osler said that Welch was born with hypertrophy of the heart. Comments on the College and F.R.C.S. exam which is a disgrace. Mentions Osler's letter to the Lancet. Norman Moore would have to give up the power. Mentions N.M. the first Royal C. President since reformation. Cunliffe was here for tea and talked about postgraduate work for all kinds of students in Europe. Suggestion for his case cards. Grace told him of one of Osler's jokes on Jack Heweston.

American Army officers from Chicago came to dinner. Anecdote on Osler on the train where a Baptist parson told Osler about his aneurysm and Osler pretending he knew nothing of such things and not a medico. Mentions pirated textbook selling like hot cakes in a Liverpool bookseller's shop. He did not give himself away.

They have many American friends who visit them. This week, he has lectured at Shorncliffe, visited the American Hospitals. He has given a dinner to Finley and Meakins. Good comments on the latter. Harvey Littlejohn who was talking of the Burke and Hare memories, Osler told him of the late persistence of body-snatching in Montreal. Littlejohn suggested that Shepherd could write up the story. Osler asks him if he accepts to do it. If it is not for publication, Osler will put it with his Resurrectionist literature, in the 1829 Parliamentary Report on the Anatomy Act. Mentions his library, of the anaesthesia section. Sends him a reprint of remarks, made at the presentation of some duplicates to the Royal Society of Medicine. Civilities.
