These papers comprise Lydia Trenholme's Normal School diploma, and a manuscript map of Senneville (ca 1907) showing land-holdings. The lakeshore property marked 'JKW' probably belonged to J.K. Ward.

Simpson's papers contain personal records, student materials, and lectures delivered by him. The personal materials consist of a file of letters of appointment to the Indian Commission, Bishop's University, the Montreal General Hospital, and various insurance companies, as well as testimonial letters from Robert Craik and G.W. Campbell. Simpson's outgoing letterbook contains copies of correspondence from his Indian Commission period concerning salary, accomodation, medical supplies and other aspects of his work. Included are two diaries. One describes his trip to Europe, 1857-1858, giving quite full descriptions of hospitals and clinics, as well as sight-seeing, in Paris and the British Isles. The second diary, from 1865 to 1903 is less detailed. Finally, there is a file of personal documents, e.g. his birth certificate and instructions concerning his funeral, 1897. Apart from lecture attendance cards, materials from Simpson's student days consist of a notebook for a number of medical courses, 1853-1854. Simpson's teaching career is documented by a lecture on phlebitis, ten lectures on veneral disease, 1878, five on syphilis, 1881 and a convocation address, 1884.

The collection consists of T.E. Montgomery's annoted copy of Notes on the Practice of Medicine (lectures by Dr. George Ross of McGill's Medical College), 1891-1892.

The fonds consists of Newton’s lifelong interest in the life and times of Daniel Defoe, and documents his teaching and research, not his diplomatic career. The bulk of the records consists of research notes, editorial notes and drafts of works about Daniel Defoe. Most important is an unpublished typescript on Defoe’s early career. This appears to have been completed in the 1970’s, and is based on research done in the 1930’s and resumed after Newton’s retirement. There are numerous research notes for this and other work on Defoe and 18th century journalism (1930-1975). Then also included are drafts and typescripts of works by Newton and extensive editorial notes, related correspondence between Newton and Chester N. Greenough relating to the facsimile edition (1930) of Defoe’s Review. In addition, there are Newton’s lecture notes for the courses given at McGill on English literature covering 1650-1900, as well as notes he took while at Harvard. There is a small amount of non-academic material such as articles on McGill sports and transcripts of radio broadcasts by Newton under pseudonym Ted Moorhouse.

The fonds, reflecting his fascination for British writer D.H. Lawrence, comprises mainly of scrapbooks, newspaper clippings (1922-1965), dust-jackets, invoices for books (1931-1964), and draft lecture relating to that topic (1960). In the collection there is also correspondence to MacDermot from Wydham Lewis (1939-1940), schedule of classes at Hotchkiss school (1923), clippings concerning the Black Diaries of Roger Casement (1928-1963) and diverse other works and memorabilia, mainly from Australia, including several small reproductions of works by Australian painters.

Millen's papers fall into three series: records from his legal career, records from his business career, and files concerning McGill. Documenting his career as a lawyer are 8 cm of correspondence regarding lawsuits and court cases, interspersed with some personal matters, e.g. the affairs of the Graduates' Society (1930-1934). Appointment diaries cover the years 1931-1933. The bulk of this archive is a group of business files (1949-1970), containing accounting reports and financial statements for John Millen and Co., some miscellaneous correspondence, and clippings concerning business and politics. Millen's work for the Graduates' Society and as a McGill governor is the subject of files of correspondence, memoranda, minutes and printed material, largely on fund raising and athletics (1930-1972). The Trustees' Minute Book records negotiations for establishing the school, engaging teachers, fees, the maintenance of the building, and the curriculum. About one-third of the minutes are in Hebrew script. The school trustees' meetings occasionally took on the character of a general town assembly and general topics such as agricultural assistance to immigrants were discussed.

The Mason fonds reflects his functions at the Chemistry Department and the Pulp and Paper Research Institute. The collection comprises of administrative and research files, including mainly correspondence, notes, programs, memoranda, files on scientific associations, reports and Dr. Mason’s lecture notes (1946). Non textual records consist of photographs representing apparatus, laboratories and buildings, receipt of Prix Marie-Victorin (1986), one video cassette on AMason Day” (1979) to celebrate his career and a collection of drawings. Included is a set of 8 chronologically arranged volumes of Dr. Mason's published articles (1940-1983).
