Coluber Naja

The caption identifies the species as "Coluber naja," according to the Linnean system. The rest of the caption reads: "Cobra de Capello, or Hooded Snake of Hindostan: this is one Dancing Snakes, of a small size, drawn from the life at Bombay, a few hours before it killed a young woman." An additional pencil annotation by Henry Mousley identifies the species as "Naia tripudians."
