Herman Jackrabbit Smith-Johannsen Fonds

The papers of "Jackrabbit" Johannsen reflect his personal, professional and recreational activities, mainly between 1934 and 1985. The largest part of the papers consists of correspondence with friends and organizations, particularly relating to skiing and outdoor life. Family relations are also covered. A series of brief journals provides a record of some of his daily activities, from 1948 to 1984. The remainder of the fonds include publications about Johannsen, photographs, maps and personal documents such as passports.

Janet March Fonds

The fonds reflects Agnes Honoria Wrong's career as a columnist and mainly consists of scrapbooks containing food columns published in different Canadian newspapers chiefly under the pen name Janet March. Janet March's real name was Agnes Honoria Armstrong Wrong, and she wrote under many pen names. The earliest columns (1931-1933) are signed "Suzette" and were published in the Saturday Night Magazine (Toronto) Some other food-related columns published in the Junior League Magazine (1933-1935) are signed "Epicure". Later columns in the Saturday Night Magazine (1939-1946) are ordered more or less by year in specific scrapbooks. Articles about history of food, as well as recipe columns, were published monthly in the Globe & Mail (1956-1962), some of them under her real name. Part of the material is loose in envelopes or within already filled scrapbooks, including pre-publication typed articles. Also are included a few letters addressed to the creator (reader's mail).

Maude Lilian Bremner collection

Collection includes a scrapbook created by Maude Lilian Bremner during her time in South Africa as a teacher to Boer children in refugee camps, as well as other related loose clippings and ephemera. The scrapbook contains newspaper clippings, postcards, and other ephemera tipped in. Many of the clippings are articles reprinting letters written home by Bremner and other volunteer teachers in her contingent. Collection also includes a published Memorandum respecting the engagement of teachers for the refugee camps in South Africa.

Judith Fitzgerald Fonds

The fonds documents Judith Fitzgerald’s personal and professional activities as a journalist, poet, and country music enthusiast, put together by Fitzgerald herself, documenting her work from the years 1965 to 1995. The majority of the records consists of research about individuals and musical acts, as well as other work-related projects that Fitzgerald was involved in. These include notes, drafts, and published work written by Fitzgerald, as well as various publications that she collected about the subjects and projects she worked on. The fonds also notably includes Fitzgerald’s creative work, including notes, drafts, manuscripts, and copies of her published books of poetry. Other materials include correspondence between Fitzgerald and friends, publishers, and individuals and institutions that she covered in her research. In addition, the fonds includes some financial records and personal records relating to Fitzgerald’s day-to-day activities and significant events in her life. These records include her marriage certificate, scrapbooks containing collected publications on herself, and notes on her autobiography.

Richard L. MacDonnell Collection

The collection consists of 3 scrapbooks assembled by Richard L. MacDonnell, and 1 McGill Dissection Room Record Book created and kept by MacDonnell from April 1883-1891. The scrapbooks contain notes, patient prescription information, reprints of various publications by MacDonnell, and lots of news clippings concerning various topics such as the history of Montreal, McGill University, the McGill faculty, Montreal General Hospital, and obituary notices. A second volume of dissection records (1896-1908) was compiled after MacDonnell's death, and can be found in the library catalogue.

Eleanor Wallis Fonds

Fonds consists chiefly of a scrapbook created by Eleanor Wallis, née Eleanor Fisher, while a nurse at the Grenfell Mission in St. Anthony, Newfoundland, as well as diplomas and certificates for her and her husband, the physician Allan D. Wallis, and reprints of medical articles by Allan D. Wallis. The Grenfell album consists of photographs taken by Eleanor from 1933-1934 and printed items such as postcards, calendar pictures, and reproductions of photos made for sale by the Grenfell Mission. Photographs have handwritten captions with some personal annotations. One of the postcards shows a young nurse walking along a stretch of road leading to the village of St. Anthony's: this is Eleanor Fisher. Some later photocopies have been taped or laid in. Thirteen certificates and diplomas attest to Eleanor Fisher's training as a nurse (1929) and Allan D. Wallis's training as a physician (1925-1959), including Eleanor's Registered Nurse certificate, diploma from the Training School of Nurses of the Pennsylvania Hospital, and pediatrics nursing course certificate, and certificates attesting to Allan's residency training at the Pennsylvania Hospital, medical licence and diplomas, board certification in pathology, and a presidential certificate of appointment as an examining physician for the Pennsylvania Selective Service (this last is accompanied by a letter from the Governor of Pennsylvania). Two folders contain reprints of articles by Allan. D Wallis dating between 1941 and 1954. There are also 9 prints of photographs from the scrapbook, with captions on verso, accompanied by negatives. Lastly, there is one copy of a poem entitled "The Nurse" on oversized paper, the College of American Pathologists Code of Ethics, and one large group portrait photograph of hospital staff.
