Documents, Correspondence de Sola Family

File consists of original correspondence and documents relating or written by the Josephs, Harts and de Solas. There Is some correspondence between Evelyn Miller and David de Sola Pool, Rev. of the Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue of New York. Also includes typed documents authored by or about David de Sola Pool, a letter from Pierre Mendes (France January 19th 1960), and assorted correspondence compiled by Evelyn Miller including: letter from Isaac Leeser for Sarah Joseph, documents certifying Jesse Joseph's Brit Mila (circumcision) dated 1819, document certifying the same for Gershom Joseph, certification in Hebrew dated 1861, letter dated 1811 from Gershom Mendes Selxas Minister of the Congregation Shearith Israel In New York, name certification letter for Sarah Matlld David daughter of Aaron Hart David and Catherine Joseph, and a letter to Aaron Hart from David Levi dated 1794.

Louis-Charles, Joseph and Angélique-Marguerite Lefebvre de Bellefeuille

Papers (8) which include: an account of masses to perform and the certificate of baptism of Louis-Charles; a letter from Louis-Charles to Joseph concerning the administration of their seigneurie; and letter to Angélique-Marguerite from her brothers François-Louis, Henri-Nicolas and Louis-Charles, as well as from Louise-Josephte Chartier de Lotbinière.

Fourth volume of Forbes's manuscript travel journal. This volume contains entries on various sites in Rome, including the Villa Borghese, St. Peter's, the Villa Albani, the Church of St. Agnes, the Mausoleum of Constantia, the Baths of Caracalla, St. Sebastian, the Catacombs, the Aventine Hill, the Vatican, the Esquiline Hill, and the Spada Palace, written during November and December 1796. Entries also describe a December 1979 trip to Naples. Manuscript is written on laid paper, bound in half leather with marbled covered boards.

First volume of Forbes's manuscript travel journal. This volume contains entries related to the writer's travels to Hamburg, Hanover, Brunswick, Wolfenbuttel, Berlin, Potzdam, Sans-Souci, Wittenberg, Leipzig, Dresden, Prague, and Vienna. Page [11] contains a dedication to Forbes' daughter with the inscription: "Scribere jussit Amor. In every work regard the writer's end; Since none can compass more than they intend." Manuscript is written on laid paper, bound in half leather with marbled covered boards.

Letter

Consists of autograph signed letter to Forbes from the historian Charles Forbes Réne de Montalembet (the Count of Montalembert), son of Forbes's daughter Eliza Rose.

Travel manuscript, fifth volume

Fifth volume of Forbes's manuscript travel journal, beginning in February of 1797 with Forbes's departure from Rome to Florence. Includes descriptions of sites visiting while en route, including Aquapendente, Radicofani, and Sienna. Entries describe Forbes's stay in Florence and its monuments and art, including an entry on "Italian music." Journal also contains descriptions of the journey from Florence to Genoa, and along the Ligurian coast. One entry is devoted to the "French Revolution, its consequences in Italy." Finally, the journal contains entries on the voyage from Genoa back to England on 19 February 1797. Journal contains an addenda added in 1799. Manuscript is written on laid paper, bound in half leather with marbled covered boards.
