One side of the medal bears a wreath surrounded by the words, "In memory of the Meeting of the British Association at Montreal, 1884, and "J.R. McKenzie, 1884" etched in the middle. The other side has a profile of James Watt with the words, "Presented at McGill University, Montreal, Prize for applied sciences."
