Richard L. MacDonnell Collection

The collection consists of 3 scrapbooks assembled by Richard L. MacDonnell, and 1 McGill Dissection Room Record Book created and kept by MacDonnell from April 1883-1891. The scrapbooks contain notes, patient prescription information, reprints of various publications by MacDonnell, and lots of news clippings concerning various topics such as the history of Montreal, McGill University, the McGill faculty, Montreal General Hospital, and obituary notices. A second volume of dissection records (1896-1908) was compiled after MacDonnell's death, and can be found in the library catalogue.

The collection consists of written correspondence between Dr. Clarence B. Farrar and Dr. Franklin G. Ebaugh concerning reproductive rights for victims of rape in relation to the case of a Denver woman who was the victim of rape in 1955. The woman ended up giving birth to a child after she was denied an abortion by doctors and lawyers. The collection also includes a three-page editorial titled "Legal Abortions" that cites Chapter 40, Article 2, Section 23 of the Colorado Revised Statutes 1953.

Samuel Hanford McKee Fonds

Fonds shows Samuel Hanford McKee's interest in war lesions of the eyes. It contains the original plates for his article "War Lesions of the Fundus" published in the American Journal of Ophthalmology, vol. 6, September 1923, and a series of 33 hand illustrated case histories of injuries of the eye during World War I. The illustrations are from E. Bind.

Cecil Percy Martin Fonds

The fonds consists of three scrapbooks, and textual records that include obituaries and letters written in memory of C. P. Martin by McGill faculty and former students, index cards of C. P. Martin's religious reflections on the bible, typed and handwritten sermons, C. P. Martin's nature journal, a copy of Francis Shepherd Memorial Lectures 1953-1956, and some letter correspondence. Two of the scrapbooks document C. P. Martin's personal family life (including family trees depicting five generations, his leisurely interests etc.) and his professional life at McGill, with many newspaper clippings about McGill University and faculty. The other scrapbook contains mostly British Medical Journal clippings (1942-1954).

David R. Boyd Fonds

Fonds documents the development of Dr. Boyd's career in trauma care and emergency medical services systems, beginning at the University of Maryland in Baltimore and Cook County Hospital in Chicago, where he became interested in hemorrhagic shock and other clinical investigations, through his work in establishing national emergency medical services systems and his experience with the Indian Health Service. Also includes publications and clippings honouring Boyd's contributions as the founder of emergency medical services systems. Fonds largely comprised of reprints and copies of articles for scholarly and popular publications. Also contains some manuscripts of unpublished works and one draft of published work.

Eleanor Wallis Fonds

Fonds consists chiefly of a scrapbook created by Eleanor Wallis, née Eleanor Fisher, while a nurse at the Grenfell Mission in St. Anthony, Newfoundland, as well as diplomas and certificates for her and her husband, the physician Allan D. Wallis, and reprints of medical articles by Allan D. Wallis. The Grenfell album consists of photographs taken by Eleanor from 1933-1934 and printed items such as postcards, calendar pictures, and reproductions of photos made for sale by the Grenfell Mission. Photographs have handwritten captions with some personal annotations. One of the postcards shows a young nurse walking along a stretch of road leading to the village of St. Anthony's: this is Eleanor Fisher. Some later photocopies have been taped or laid in. Thirteen certificates and diplomas attest to Eleanor Fisher's training as a nurse (1929) and Allan D. Wallis's training as a physician (1925-1959), including Eleanor's Registered Nurse certificate, diploma from the Training School of Nurses of the Pennsylvania Hospital, and pediatrics nursing course certificate, and certificates attesting to Allan's residency training at the Pennsylvania Hospital, medical licence and diplomas, board certification in pathology, and a presidential certificate of appointment as an examining physician for the Pennsylvania Selective Service (this last is accompanied by a letter from the Governor of Pennsylvania). Two folders contain reprints of articles by Allan. D Wallis dating between 1941 and 1954. There are also 9 prints of photographs from the scrapbook, with captions on verso, accompanied by negatives. Lastly, there is one copy of a poem entitled "The Nurse" on oversized paper, the College of American Pathologists Code of Ethics, and one large group portrait photograph of hospital staff.

The fonds is divided into series, following the provenance and arrangement of the depositor as much as possible. Among the principal series are: President's binders or files, Secretary's binders or files, CHLA/ABSC special reports, and CHLA/ABSC publications. Within the series are found sub-series, i.e. President's binder, correspondence. The organization of the binders revolves around the Board Meetings, which occur three times a year, in June, October and February. At this time, reports are presented and decisions acted upon. Addenda to the Board Minutes frequently exceed 10 items. The fiscal year is from June 1 to May 31.
