Correspondence and papers, 1791-1818

Collection of correspondence, general ledger pages, financial receipts, and contractual agreements in relation to McDonald's involvement in the North-West Company and the North American Fur trade.

Included in the file are two letters addressed to a Mr. A. de Lery MacDonald or McDonald of Montreal (1921-1922). These appear to be legal council in reference to the contractual agreements or land holdings of John McDonald of Garth mentioned in the petitions and contracts also contained in the file.

Correspondence and notes on the life of Simon McTavish

Various cards, letter, diagrams, and notes on the life of Simon McTavish and his family as received by Baylis from multiple incoming correspondence. A sizable amount of communication with Chiswick Parish Church Vicar, Rev. E. P. Gough, including a Parish magazine from June 1922. Also included are the inscriptions on the monuments of the children of Simon McTavish (William d.1818, Ann d. 1819, and Simon d. 1828) found at Chiswick in London, England.

A mix of handwritten and typed notes, interview transcripts, and drawings produced by Baylis to accompany his research on McTavish. Includes notes on Simon McTavish funeral and burial, the McTavish monument and tomb, the McTavish house (cost, legends of haunting), legal battles over estate, interview notes with Miss Reid-Taylor, drawings of property lines, and important dates for the McTavish children. There are typed transcription of a lease agreement, Elizabeth McGillivray's 1863 deposition, and the funeral notice for Simon McTavish (1804).
