Letter to Harvey Cushing from Sir John MacAlister, Royal Society of Medicine, 1 Wimpole Street West, London, England. MacAlister describes the Herbert affair, which was very painful to Osler. He advises Cushing to leave this story out of his biography on Osler. He writes of Osler's help and encouragement in realizing a pet project of his, the "Amalgamation."

Letter to Harvey Cushing from Maude E. Abbott, Medical Museum, McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Abbott thanks Cushing for correcting a mistake in her bibliography of Osler's works. The suggestion of a Canadian Edition of Work by or about Osler was brought before the Canadian Medical Association for consideration.

He suspects that Osler never pursued this scheme because it would have competed with the new school of Librarianship at the University of London. He suggests that Cushing consult "The Library," by John MacAlister.

Osler was a great friend of John MacAlister, who took an active part in the foundation of the School of Librarianship, and it is very possible that the two men had often talked over the matter. Includes manuscript notes.

Butler responds to Cushing's inquiries about the project to rebuild the library at the University of Louvain. Osler's involvement in the project was likely due to early refugees who went to Oxford from Louvain, and who appealed to him for help in the matter. [For more details see CUS417/22.8]
