Collections includes records relating to the Montreal Night Patrol, to which many prominent Montrealers subscribed. Files include lists of expenses incurred by the patrol, minutes from sessions, accounts and receipts, and subscription lists.

The collection consists chiefly of a document written by Stanley Goddard detailing a 1766-1767 voyage by canoe from Michilimackinac up Lake Superior to the Mississippi. There is a docket title given on verso: "Copy of Mr. Goddard's Journal - 29th August 1767." These pages, ostensibly copied from Goddard's daily journal in his capacity as secretary to the detachment, describe a voyage under the command of Captain James Tute, with Goddard as second and secretary.

Appended to the journal pages there is a document entitled, "Return of such Western Indians as are now at this Post” (that is, the post at Michilimackinac). The document may have been created after 1805, because it appears to contain a reference to the Shawnee Prophet (Tenskwatawa, 1775-1836). The page includes a table of demographic information for Indigenous tribes, including numbers of men, women, children, and total population figures. The people enumerated include the Kickapoo (Kiikaapoa or Kiikaapoi); the "Sawkee" (Sauk, Sac, or oθaakiiwaki) and Meskwaki (Meshkwahkihaki); the Wyandot (or Wendat); Shawnees of "the Prophet's Band" and other bands of Shawnees (Shaawanwaki, Ša˙wano˙ki and Shaawanowi lenaweeki); Ottawa and Chippewa (Odaawaa or Odawa and Ojibwe); Muensee (mə́n'si·w); Delaware (or, Lenape); "Moravians" (probably Christian, or Moravian, Munsee); and Seneca-Cayuga (Guyohkohnyo or Gayogohó:no).

Contains 1 bound volume of minutes for the Montreal Fire Club from 2nd April 1786 to 14th November 1814. First 6 pages outline the purpose and engagement of the club members. List of 14 the members appears on page [2].

This collection consists of twelve documents concerning the settlement of the Algonquin and Nipissing First Nations at Oka, Quebec, some in Anishinaabemowin, 1831-1853. There are also letters and documents mostly addressed to N. O. Greene, a solicitor and activist, concerning the Indigenous communities of Oka, 1878-1880.

Fonds consists of Fenwick's scrapbook which contains newspaper clippings and some of his letters to the editor on topics ranging from medicine to general interest to humour. Five letters from medical conferences in Québec and Ontario, as well as some engraved portraits of medical men are also included.

File contains two drawings, which document a plan and an elevation for an unidentified house.

The collection contains materials related to a bicycle relay ride between Sarnia, Ontario, and Montreal, Quebec, held June 15-16, 1894 by the Canadian Wheelmen's Association (CWA) under its president, A. T. Lane, an early importer of bicycles to Canada who is credited by many contemporary sources as the first person to ride a high wheel bicycle in North America. The relay ride was organised as a promotional event for the CWA's annual meet, hosted in Montreal that year. The collection contains a newspaper article from the Toronto Mail (June 16, 1894) detailing the route and listing the participants, as well as a leather travel satchel used to carry a congratulatory letter to the president of the Canadian Wheelman's Association to be signed by the mayors of the cities and towns along the route. The satchel is embossed with the text: "Sarnia to Montreal relay ride, 1894." The collection also contains a published programme from the CWA annual meet, entitled, "Our city and our sports : souvenir and official programme of the 12th annual meet of the Canadian Wheelmen's Association, Montreal, July 1894."

Fonds records Murray’s university education, and his teaching and literary activities from 1869-1904. The papers (originals and photocopies) also reveal his interest in the history of his family, and contain a very small number of personal items. Clark's student days in Glasgow and Edinburgh are documented by six lecture notebooks for classics, languages, theology and courses on philosophy by P.C. MacDougall and Sir William Hamilton. Eighteen essays on logical and theological themes, as well as five exegetic exercises and homilies, some delivered in Paisley, are also included. From his sojourn in Germany (1856-1857) come address books, course announcements, and a registration book showing courses, professors, and fees paid.

His activities as a teacher are represented by 22 notebooks of lecture notes on logic, ethics, metaphysics, church history, and topics in the history of philosophy. Some are for courses delivered to the Montréal Ladies' Educational Association. His literary endeavours consist of manuscripts of Christian Ethics (published in 1906), drafts and a fair copy of a tragedy entitled Judas of Kerioth, and The Industrial Kingdom of God (ca 1887). There are also notes and proofs for an article on women's rights.

As private records, Murray left a scrapbook of clippings of his articles (1862-1917), an album of photographs of friends and students (ca 1860-ca 1900), a bundle of press clippings on his retirement from McGill, a letter and some press clippings about his Introduction to Ethics (1891) and two letters from former students who became missionaries.Family history materials fall into two groups: genealogical tables and questionnaires concerning the Clark family, with a few letters; and the papers of David Murray, father of J. Clark Murray and, for many years, provost of Paisley. The later documents comprise 4 cm. of correspondence, largely on political matters, with the Home Office, Robert Peel, Lord Shaftesbury, Lord Dufferin and others. Also included is a scrapbook of invitations and news clippings relative to David Murray’s provostship, and to the career of his son (1833-1878), and some letters from his brother John, written in London in August 1843 shortly before John mysteriously vanished.
