Fonds consists of documents, which illustrate the founding, and the activities of the American Osler Society. Included are the administrative and financial documents, minutes, reports, correspondence of the officers, correspondence with members, files regarding links with other organizations and a survey. The fonds also contains documents related to membership, the annual meeting, the William B. Bean Student Awardship, the John P. American Osler Society

John P. McGovern Lecture

Series consists of three subseries containing records generated by the John P. McGovern Lecture, which was established in 1986 through the endowment of the John P. McGovern Foundation. The lectureship makes possible an annual presentation of a paper dedicated to the general areas of Sir William Osler’s interests in the interface between the humanities and the sciences. The lectureship is awarded to a leader who is selected by a committee of the American Osler Society. The records include the records of the John P. McGovern Lecture Committee (P125/H1); documents regarding the annual lecture (P125/H2); the published pamphlets of the lectures and textual materials generated during the preparation of the edited volume Our lords, the sick: McGovern Lectures in the history of medicine and medical humanism (2004) (P125/H3). Series includes correspondence of the secretary-treasurer with John P. McGovern, guidelines of the committee, programs, press release, and newspaper clippings.

Series consists of three subseries P125/I1 Osler Library of History of Medicine, P125/I2 #13 Norham Gardens, P125/I3 American Association for the History of Medicine showing the privileged links of the association with these organizations. Series includes correspondence, receipts, newsletter, grant request and one agenda.

Series consists of three subseries: P125/J1 Persisting Osler, P125/J2 American Osler Society, inc. : Biographical Directory, P125/J3 The Oslerian, pertaining to the publishing activities of the American Osler Society. Series includes correspondence, notes, working plan, photographs, quotations from printers, working sheets, curriculum vitae, bibliographies and biographic forms, newsletters and reprints.

Subseries is divided in three sub-subseries : P125/J2;1 Logistics and Correspondence, P125/J2;2 Members Biographical Forms and P125/J2;3 Photographs. Includes quotations from printers, notes and working sheets, photographs, curriculum vitae, bibliographies and biographic forms.

Earl Nation

Series consists of notes and photocopies compiled by Earl Nation re. Geoffrey Jefferson (formerly Acc. 549), and correspondence with I.N. Dubin, M.D. (formerly Acc. 591).

Constitution and Structure.

Series consists of four subseries: P125/A1 History (1972 and 1987), P125/A2 Charters and Certificate of Incorporation (1975-1977), P125/A3 Constitution and By-Laws (1970-1982), and P125/A4 Seal (1970). Includes a presentation, correspondence, forms, by-laws, statements, seal, a franchise tax report and a certificate of incorporation.

Ad Hoc Committee

Subseries consists of two files of ad hoc committees set up to study particular matters. The first file [P125/B4.1] contains records of the Committee on Medical History among Young Physicians and the second one [P125/B4.2] gathers information generated by the Ad Hoc Committee on the Oslerian Book.

Reports

Subseries consists of reports submitted to the attention of the Board of Governors. Contains one file with two reports: one on the sale of the Aequanimitas tie and one on membership criteria.

Correspondence

Series consists of two subseries: P125/C1 Correspondence of the Officers and P125/C2 Correspondence with Members. Includes almost only correspondence.
