History

William Peters Dole, D.C.L., was born on June 20, 1825, in Saint John, New Brunswick.

He was an attorney, barrister, professor, and poet. He was also a president of the Royal Society of Canada, a man occupying a high position in the literary life of the community. He published the books "Carmen Acadium: Ode for the Jubilee Year of the Reign of Queen Victoria" (1887) and "The True Story about Gutenberg's Invention of Printing".

In 1855, he married Clarissa Ann Leavitt (1820–1862) and in 1872, he remarried Louisa Perkins (1833–1908). He died on June 26, 1910, in Saint John, New Brunswick.
